The Rose to Take Away

The Rose offers a delicious selection of our own home-made jams, preserves and cakes to take away. Many of these are regular features on our menu, though some are specifically designed for special occasions. Please note that cakes have to be preordered one day in advance.

Classic Cakes.

These cakes are some of the same as we offer throughout the year at The Rose. Simple and unadorned, they are made with the best possible ingredients. The result is intense, uncompromising flavours.

Lemon Cake (for 8)                                                                                             £9.50

Made from fresh organic eggs and lemons, and unsalted butter, this “simple” sponge is a treat for the taste buds. Moist, fresh and tangy. A customer once remarked: ”I’d happily drive a hundred miles for a slice of your lemon cake”.

Chocolate and Almond Cake (for 8)                                                                £12.50

Gluten free. Made with ground almonds, organic eggs and chocolate, rum and coffee. Its succulence makes it a lovely teatime treat, and a brilliant dessert when served with fresh raspberries and vanilla ice cream.

Carrot and Walnut Cake (for 12)                                                                      £14.50

Organic carrots and walnuts, delicately spiced and layered with an orange and cream cheese filling. A rich and satisfying cake.

Coffee and Mascarpone Cake (for 12)                                                              £11.50

The name almost says it all. Coffee sponges, again made from organic eggs and unsalted butter, layered with a rich mascarpone and coffee cream topped with organic chocolate shavings. A great cake for a coffee morning.

The Rose Birthday Cakes.

These fabulous cakes are based on the traditional Danish birthday 'Layer Cakes'. Three thin layers of incredibly light sponge separate delicious custard, fruit or chocolate fillings. Time-consuming to make well, but the perfect cake for celebrating a birthday.

Othello (for 12)                                                                                                         £24

Vanilla custard, whipped cream and Chocolate Icing. Deceptively simple in its composition, but not in taste!

Raspberry (for 12)                                                                                                   £24

Raspberry jam, vanilla custard, apple compote, whipped cream and fresh raspberries. A perfect balance of sweetness and fresh fruit.

Coffee and Walnut (for 12)                                                                                      £24
